Where is the most voluminous in the world? The answer is Asia!
Where is the most popular in Asia? The answer is China and South Korea!
What about Japan?
Japan? I have already died as a tribute!
What are the remaining advantageous industries in Japan?
Apart from making achievements in certain high-tech industries, there are only cars and romantic action movies left, and cars won’t struggle for long.
Because Japan’s position as the world’s top exporter of automobiles will pass away in 2023.
Whether to continue cutting corners or switch tracks, Japan has not yet decided.
In terms of temperament, Japan is not as neurotic as Korea, Korea is not as perverted as Japan, and arrogance is the only common trait.
Let’s take a look at the advantageous industries of China and South Korea, with Japan standing nearby and listening attentively.
South Korea: Pillar industries such as shipbuilding, automobiles, electronics, steel, storage chips, and entertainment.
China: Shipbuilding, automobiles, electronics, steel, storage chips, entertainment, textiles, new energy, communication, aerospace, quantum and other pillar industries, among which new energy includes lithium batteries, photovoltaics, wind power, nuclear power, etc.
Look, both South Korea and China have it; What South Korea does not have, China also has.
Some people may say that Chinese entertainment is not as good as South Korea, right? That’s a big mistake. The export volume of Chinese movies, TV dramas, songs, and games is much larger than that of South Korea, and they target a wider range of countries.
Have you ever seen a group of Africans watching Korean dramas on TV?
It’s not about finding a group of young people who can’t distinguish between men and women, dancing a dance that you can’t understand, and filming a TV drama about chatting in the kitchen for 100 episodes, which is called entertainment.
Entertainment should also have historical and artistic heritage, such as the Black Myth of Wukong, the Wandering Earth, and so on.
According to the World Journal of South Korea, in the shipbuilding industry, South Korea continues to be ahead of China for the third year, with the annual order volume maintaining the second highest level in the world.
The World Journal is still not arrogant enough. According to the temperament of Koreans, it should be said that “South Korea’s world number one” has been taken away by China for four consecutive times, and it will still not turn around in 2024!
Are you familiar with it?
In the 2023 World Expo voting, South Korea received only 29 votes, while Saudi Arabia received 119 votes.
However, South Korean media said: South Korea narrowly defeated Saudi Arabia!
Is 29 to 119 a slight disadvantage? The line Mary shouted flashed through her mind, ‘Shameless!’
Next, let’s talk about the shipbuilding industry.
According to data from analysis firm Clarkson, due to the impact of global economic trends, the volume of new orders in the shipbuilding industry decreased by nearly 21% to only 30.83 million tons in 2023. The statistical data for 2024, and so on, all the tonnage figures in this article are revised and the revised statistics are more accurate.
The cake has shrunk by one-fifth, who has divided it among them? The answer is China and South Korea.
Among them, South Korea received an order volume of up to 9.95 million tons, a slight decrease of 39% year-on-year. And what about China? It decreased significantly by 6% to only 21.89 million tons.
This kind of expression has benefited Koreans a lot, but it cannot solve the fact that the Korean shipbuilding industry is declining.
Previously, South Korea often used LNG ships as a bargaining chip, but now the situation has changed. Whether it is ordinary container ships or LNG ships, South Korea’s shipbuilding industry is no longer a competitor to China.
Hudong Shipyard has taken the lead in launching the world’s first fifth generation LNG ship, which has technically set a distance for South Korea. In addition, the first domestically produced large cruise ship has also been launched, becoming the only country capable of independently designing and building large cruise ships.
Also, the world’s first nuclear powered container ship has been launched
Reality is so cruel, why compete with China for business?
China dominates the construction of conventional ship types
Two years ago, South Korean shipbuilding giant Daewoo, a well-known company that produces LNG ships, had to sell its LNG shipbuilding business due to debt repayment.
The fact that South Korea was able to knock down Japan’s shipbuilding industry in the past indicates that its shipbuilding industry has excellent technology, creating multiple world firsts in tonnage, construction speed, and project duration, as well as possessing many patents.
But their decline is not entirely caused by competition with China. The government of Yoon Seok yeol cannot shirk its responsibility. He has been striving to travel globally, but has not negotiated an international cooperation and is not very concerned about the declining South Korean industry. It is inevitable that he will fall into difficulties.

At the beginning of the 21st century, China’s shipbuilding industry could not be compared to South Korea in terms of scale and technology.
At that time, South Korea had just crushed Japan’s shipbuilding industry, and it could be said to have been in high demand.
After defeating the powerful Japanese shipbuilding industry in South Korea, they paid even less attention to us.
But at that time, the Chinese shipbuilding industry began to accelerate its strong vitality and first received more and more domestic orders. The supply chain has also been established simultaneously, with metallurgy, electronics, chemical industry… from raw materials to processing, and then to supporting facilities, a complete set of shipbuilding industry system has emerged.
After accumulating more than a decade of influence, combined with efforts in diplomacy and bilateral relations, global orders have gradually increased.
But South Korea did not realize the sense of crisis and believed that its technological, capital and other advantages could completely crush its Chinese counterparts.
So, they chose a strategy that now seems completely suicidal: roll!
Volume cost, volume technology, volume service, volume We won’t let go of anything that can be rolled up.
From 2010 to 2020, this volume is 10 years, and we have seen the world war in which the shipbuilding industry between China and South Korea rose to prominence.
The disheartened days only retained a little ability to build warships, so I decided to die first as a gesture of respect and withdrew from the competition in the world shipbuilding industry.
The problem is that China’s own demand is too great. Since 2006, it has been “making dumplings” and the three major fleets have been ecstatic, almost every month receiving new ships. First came the Type 054 destroyer, then the Type 056 frigate, and finally the Type 052 and Type 055 destroyers. It wasn’t until the emergence of the Liaoning class destroyer in 2012 that there was a remarkable moment of success.
The East Sea Fleet said, you are too bullying! Why did the North Sea Fleet take away four 055 million ton destroyers, and the South China Sea Fleet also took away four 055 destroyers, both of which have aircraft carriers, and let me use 052D to poke a small day?
Take it slow, dumplings won’t stop for another 10 years.
Looking at South Korea again, we received a lot of orders in the past few years, but in order to compete with China, we made a profit by losing money and making a lot of noise. Only LNG ships can still make a little profit.
But the majority of South Korea’s LNG technology is in the hands of France, and those who have to pay patent fees have to import Inwa steel from French GTT company, and cannot bypass the liquid cargo containment system developed by GTT.
For every LNG produced in South Korea, GTT company is required to pay at least $10 million, or a patent fee of 5% of the total ship cost.
So, taking on more orders does not necessarily mean earning more, unless South Korea can master LNG technology and supply chain.
And China’s Yinwa Steel is produced by Baosteel, and the Chinese shipbuilding industry does not accept the hegemonic terms of Europe and America.
Under the impact of the epidemic, although the global shipping industry has not stagnated, it has also declined. If they cannot receive overseas orders, the Chinese shipbuilding industry can still make dumplings at home without delaying their earnings.
But South Korea does not have much domestic demand, and major shipyards already rely on loans for production. Once they encounter internal competition and reduced orders, it will expose their business crisis.
In addition, China’s shipbuilding industry is advancing rapidly in technology, and the complete supply chain has created a great cost advantage. How can we play this game? The favorable situation in South Korea has been turned into an unfavorable situation.
How many more years can South Korea’s shipbuilding industry survive under internal and external troubles?
