The situation in Syria has changed dramatically, and the background is not simple

The situation in Syria has undergone a sudden change.
The battle was quite intense, and the results were quite tragic. According to the Syrian government’s statement, Syrian opposition armed groups and extremist organizations have recently launched a blitzkrieg using heavy weapons and a large number of drones.
The government army put up stubborn resistance, and dozens of soldiers died in the battle.
But it still couldn’t stop the attack of the opposition armed forces.
On November 29th, Aleppo, the second largest city in Syria, was occupied by opposition armed groups.
This is also the first time in 10 years that opposition armed groups have captured this big city, and it is also the outbreak of large-scale armed conflicts in Syria after years of suspension of the civil war.
The video and pictures show some opposition militants wearing camouflage uniforms waving flags and guns on the streets of Aleppo. In many neighborhoods, the sound of rockets and shells can be heard. There are also videos showing a hostile soldier being publicly beheaded. The Christmas tree of Christianity has also been overthrown
The Russian military also urgently deployed.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has revealed that Russia has launched attacks on “terrorist checkpoints, warehouses, and artillery positions”, resulting in the death of 200 anti-government armed militants in Russian airstrikes.
This is also the first time since 2016 that the Russian military has launched airstrikes on Aleppo.
Please note: In the Western media, these opposition groups are often referred to as “rebels”!
But in the eyes of the Syrian government, these people are extremist organizations and terrorists.

The backbone of the opposition armed forces that captured Aleppo is the Nusra Front, which was once a member of Al Qaeda but later declared independence from the organization. However, according to the general view of the outside world, the organization has also received support from Türkiye and the United States.
Why did the situation suddenly change?
This involves the current context of the Middle East.

  1. The opposition armed forces saw the opportunity.
One important reason why the Bashar al Assad government in Syria was able to survive the Arab Spring and regain Syrian land such as Aleppo is that there are three supporting forces behind it.
The first is Russia, the second is Iran, and the third is Hezbollah.
However, in the past two years, because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Middle East changes, Russian forces have been trapped in Ukraine, Iran has suffered heavy losses in the struggle with Israel, and Hizbullah has been almost exhausted by Israel.
The opposition seized the opportunity and suddenly launched a blitzkrieg, which indeed destroyed all the way and quickly occupied Aleppo. The opposition is still expanding its achievements.
  2. There may be mysterious forces behind it.
As mentioned earlier, Türkiye and the West are behind the “Nusra Front”, but is that all?
    Maybe it’s more than that.
I see that there is a saying on Western social media that these radical organizations often hold strong jihadist sentiments, but why don’t they fight against Israel in Gaza and Lebanon?
Because behind them, there may also be support from Israel.
Of course, such accusations may only be speculation.
But in the Middle East, anything can happen. The “Nusra Front” is generally recognized as having an “Al Qaida” background, but Türkiye and the West will not still turn a blind eye?
The sudden attack of the opposition also violated the agreement between Russia, Iran and Türkiye. Of course, Türkiye’s explanation is that their diplomatic efforts failed to stop the planned action of the opposition.
  3. The Syrian government army is too lazy.
In the past few years, although there have been frequent minor conflicts, the overall situation in Syria has remained stable.
There are three major law enforcement forces, and the Syrian government army may have also relaxed their vigilance, even reigniting the war. The enemy launched a fierce attack, and some government troops resisted tenaciously, but there were also those who fled at will.
For the Bashar al Assad government, how to build a combat capable force and stabilize its governing foundation remains a serious challenge.
This is a life and death battle.
There are rumors that a coup has occurred in Syria. I don’t know if it’s true or false, but I don’t feel like the country is changing rapidly. This kind of information has some shadow of cognitive warfare.

But for Syria and the entire Middle East, the change of hands in Aleppo may indicate the beginning of a new large-scale battle.
The Syrian government army will definitely do its utmost, and Iran and Russia will not stand idly by. It is said that an Iranian brigadier general has been killed in the battle.
Once the Bashar regime collapses, there is no doubt that it will be a geopolitical disaster for both Russia and Iran.
For Türkiye and Israel – although the two countries have completely collapsed due to the Gaza War – the two countries share more or less common interests in the Aleppo war, and do not rule out other private transactions.
The most suffering are the people of Aleppo, who have lost hundreds of lives in the fighting.
You should know that Aleppo was once the most populous city in Syria, with a status equivalent to Syria’s Shanghai, and it is also one of the oldest cities in the world.
But repeated wars almost completely destroyed Aleppo. Now, Hu Hansan is back, it’s another new massacre.
This is the Middle East, the bloody Middle East.

Finally, upon seeing the emergency security announcement issued by the Chinese Embassy in Syria, we once again remind Chinese citizens not to travel to Syria in the near future.
The embassy reminds personnel and institutions already in Syria to closely monitor the development of the local situation and ensure that they do not leave dangerous or chaotic areas.
The announcement also stated that due to special circumstances, such as Chinese citizens insisting on going to or staying in relevant areas, it may lead to extremely high security risks for the parties involved and affect the effectiveness of obtaining assistance.
Finally, please post the emergency call information.
May all our fellow travelers, especially those who are still stranded in dangerous and chaotic areas, be safe!
