At 7:00 p.m. on December 7, the South Korean Congress failed to pass the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-youl. Due to the fact that only one impeachment case can be submitted during a congressional session, and the next session will not be until after December 10th.
This means that Yoon Seok-youl is temporarily safe. Yoon Seok-youl’s security has also made Korean democracy an out and out joke. The coup plotters have not been impeached and can continue to stay on the stage like an idle person. What is a joke?
The specific process is as follows.
On December 7th, with the push of the Common Democratic Party, the parliament first conducted a vote on the “Jin Jianhit Prosecutor’s Law”. Normally, this bill can be passed with a simple majority agreement. The Democratic Party has passed it many times before, but it was rejected by President Yoon Suk yeol using his veto power.
In the event of a coup, the Democratic Party plans to bundle the impeachment case with the “Jin Jianhit Prosecution Act” and liquidate the National Power Party in one wave. Although the Common Democratic Party and the Homeland Renewal Party (allies) have an absolute majority in Congress, they only have 187 seats combined, and with other leftists included, they only have 192 seats.
The impeachment requires 200 votes to pass, and the bundled voting means that the passage of the “Jin Jianhit Prosecutor’s Law” also requires 200 votes. At least eight “traitors” need to be won from the right-wing camp. Many people believe that the leader of the National Power Party, Han Dongxun, is a traitor. He is against martial law, so theoretically, he is also in favor of impeachment.
The key is that Yoon Seok-youl still has him on the arrest list. It’s strange if he doesn’t break the defense. Why should he support impeachment? But in fact, Han Dongxun opposes impeachment, and his attitude is very firm. Don’t worry about what he says. What politicians say is meaningless, what they actually do is the key.
How did Han Dongxun do it?
At the beginning, he did not pay attention to the vote for the “Jin Jianxi Inspection Law”, so the National Power Party produced several traitors, but the number was not large, not reaching 8. In the end, they only received 198 votes, two more votes were needed to pass. On the eve of the impeachment vote, he left with all right-wing lawmakers. During this period, two lawmakers returned, but most did not.
Han Dongxun took most of the right-wing lawmakers to another conference room under the pretext of a meeting, and then locked the door directly, not allowing them to come out. His phone was confiscated, and he personally guarded the door of the conference room, not allowing anyone to go out alone.
That’s right, the operation is so awesome. In this way, people could not vote. In fact, most right-wing legislators did not want to impeach Yoon Seok-youl. Now Han Dongxun has taken the initiative to be a villain, so there is more reason to go downhill.
In the end, the impeachment case only received 195 votes, less than 200 votes, and failed.
The actions of the National Power Party are clearly a lesson learned from the previous incident. In 2016, Park Geun hye experienced the “best friend interference in politics” incident. At that time, her party, the New National Party, immediately cut ties with Park Geun hye. In order to clean up, even the party name was changed to the Free Korea Party.
But is cutting effective? Or, in the eyes of the legislators, is it worth it? That’s not necessarily the case. Because in the Korean presidential election that year, Moon Jae-in won a resounding victory, and the Liberal Korean Party won only 25% of the votes. After that, the Liberal Korean Party reflected on a wave of things and thought that we cut off Park Geun hye and ended up helping Moon Jae-in, which was not worth it, too.
After this coup, if Yoon Seok-youl is impeached to step down, and a general election is held within 60 days, Lee Jae ming will win, and the National Power Party will not even find a suitable candidate. Isn’t this just to help the opponent to marry?
Han Dongxun is not that stupid. But it’s not enough to give the citizens an explanation, after all, the matter is too big, what should we do? Han Dongxun’s approach is to try to walk the tightrope – not only to give the people an account, but also to prevent Yoon Seok-youl from being impeached and stepped down.
It is to ask Yoon Seok-youl to suspend his post. I am very convinced about this. Many people think that Han Dongxun’s statement that the president should suspend his post as soon as possible is tantamount to supporting impeachment. In fact, the difference between the two has become significant.
Impeachment means immediate resignation, elections within 60 days, and Lee Jae ming coming to power 100%;
The suspension of office means that the President will suspend his functions and the Prime Minister Han Dezhu will take over his duties until May 2027 (the term of office of Yoon Seok-youl is that time). There are still more than two years until May 2027, who knows what will happen, maybe Li Zaiming will have gone in by then. However, many media outlets and self media simply do not understand and habitually believe that Han Dongxun’s support for suspension is equivalent to supporting impeachment.
Many people may think that if Han Dongxun does this, the difficulty is not afraid of being abandoned by the people? Regarding this point, I would like to emphasize once again that playing politics is always the most important aspect of the fundamentals, and everything else is secondary. Losing the fundamentals means losing everything.
With a basic plan, anything is possible.
Han Dongxun intended to kick off Yoon Seok-youl. He is an organic school, and he is not very popular with Yoon Seok-youl. The two have also fallen out, but Yoon Seok-youl’s many radical practices, such as martial law
In the basic camp of the right-wing, they have gained a lot of support. They are eager to kill Li Zaiming and feel that he is too weak.
Once Han Dongxun supports impeachment, the leftists will not vote for him because of this, the right-wing base will abandon him, and the small number of centrists cannot make up for it. It’s like missing out on the benefits and encountering all the drawbacks. So he had to protect Yin Xiyue, but also give an explanation to the public opinion, so he came up with a tightrope.
Obviously, his operation has become successful.
After the impeachment vote, Han Dezhu and Han Dongxun issued a joint statement stating that Yoon Seok yeol will no longer interfere in national politics until she steps down. Yoon Seok-youl used the bargaining chip of cooperating with Han Dongxun in exchange for not being impeached, while Han Dongxun kept him. After Han Dezhu took the post, Han Dongxun’s position in the party and government will be greatly strengthened.
Don’t think that Han Dongxun will be finished. Do you understand that Wang is finished? After the attack on Capitol Hill, the whole world said he was doomed, but it turned out that he had returned as the king, relying on his red neck and basic skills. Afraid of being abandoned by the Red Neck, the Republican Party held its nose to protect Mr. Trump after the Capitol Hill incident, so that it can make a comeback today.
Voting politics is a game that emphasizes fundamental principles. Numerous studies have shown that a country’s voter turnout typically does not exceed 70%, and in the vast majority of cases, it is between 50% and 60%. Depending on the situation, the highest level of enthusiasm is above 60%, the lowest level is 50%, and even lower is 40%.
That is to say, no matter what, there will always be at least one-third of people who are not interested in politics or too lazy to vote. Among the remaining two-thirds of people, only 10% -20% are centrists, which means they do not consider which political party they belong to, but only the groups that vote on specific political achievements. The rest are iron plates of a certain faction.
So for most of the votes, the winner usually has a hard time getting 60% of the vote, and 70% is even more unrealistic, usually just over 50%. If they can’t win too much, it’s good to get 55%.
Behind all of this is the fundamental disk law at work. Losing doesn’t mean losing too much, and winning doesn’t mean winning too much. Everyone’s plate is very stable, and in this situation, politicians without a basic plate are rootless floating duckweed.
In my article “Yoon Seok-youl may not be doomed” the day before yesterday, I said that Han Dongxun would protect Yoon Seok-youl. Many people in the comment area objected, and also said that I was smitten, that is, I firmly believed that Yoon Seok-youl was doomed. However, the facts proved that my judgment was correct.
I am not angry about this. It is normal for some people to oppose it, but so many people oppose it, which makes me feel a little sad. Even now, some people still choose to ignore the elephant in the room.
You have to understand that Yoon Seok-youl is the most pro American South Korean president in more than 30 years. He is also the first South Korean president to openly oppose China. Do you think his father may not save such a loyal person? If not, the slaves will be cold hearted in the future. Li Zaiming is also the kind of anti American. Although he does not openly oppose the United States, his policies are clearly not in line with American interests.
So both horizontally and vertically, they will come to the rescue.
Of course, what Yoon Seok-youl has done is so outrageous that even the United States cannot explicitly force the rescue, otherwise it will offend the public. It must be hidden behind the scenes and let the pro American party and the National Power Party save it.
Coincidentally, there is a need for national power to be rescued, and both sides hit it off immediately.
In countries with tens of thousands of American troops stationed there, the United States is like the elephant in the room. Some small things may not be the responsibility of the father, but on major issues like the president, in this sensitive period, you cannot ignore the elephant in the room. Finally, everyone is welcome to continue discussing and even criticizing. It is normal to have different opinions.
